Team Mazda UK represents Great Britain at FAI World and European Aerobatic Championships. International Championships are held at two skill levels - Advanced and Unlimited levels. Team Mazda UK sends teams of pilots to both levels of competition. Team pilots are selected by the British Aerobatic Association from the best in Britain based on performance at domestic aerobatic competitions. This blog describes the activity of the Team Mazda UK pilots as they prepare to participate at the 2010 Championships.

British Aerobatics

The British Aerobatic Association (BAeA) is the sport flying Association responsible in the UK for scheduling and running aerobatic competitions for powered aircraft and gliders to internationally approved rules. The Association runs over twenty events each year throughout the UK and Eire. The majority of these cater for all levels of aerobatic contest flying and national champions are declared in four power and glider classes.
The BAeA is responsible for pilot selection for Team Mazda UK and supports teams sent to the three major annual international aerobatic World or European championships.  More information about sport aerobatics is available on the BAeA website.

The British Aerobatics Foundation (BAeF), inaugurated in September 2005, was set up for the sole purpose of raising funds in order to award grants in support of the aerobatics training scholarship scheme being run by the BAeF, and to provide some financial support for members of the British Unlimited Team in their preparation for and participation in European and World aerobatic championships.
The BAeF has one clear vision – to see a British pilot amongst the top three individual medal winners at European or World Championships from the year 2010. Our view is that this is unlikely to happen by chance and therefore needs an appropriate level of structure to provide that vital encouragement and support.
To stand a chance of bringing this aim to fruition we must help in supporting those pilots who are already emerging as world-class contenders. But, in addition, we also to have to keep an eye on the next generation of pilots, and particularly those who are showing outstanding commitment and skill in their competitive flying thus far, and then help to facilitate intensive and well structured aerobatic flying training programmes for them, under the expert guidance of the UK’s top aerobatic instructors, augmented by visiting European and World masters at organised training camps.
